STAARting the Year Off Right Online Course and Resources (SU1122195)

As you begin the 2011-2012 school year,  it is important to learn how the new assessment system, the State of Texas Assessments for Academic Readiness (STAAR) will impact the students in your classroom. This online course is part of an ongoing professional development opportunity, allowing you to learn more about STAAR and implementation issues related to the new assessment system.

Targeted goals for this workshop include the following:

1.          Making the connection between the district curriculum and the readiness and supporting standards that support instruction.

2.          Understanding the changes in expectations for the STAAR assessments, specifically addressing rigor.

3.          Using our past assessment data to examine the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction.

4.          Building on the strengths of campus teams as part of job embedded professional development supporting professional learning communities.

ESC Region XIII specialists will be available on August 16th to support live features of this online course. After August 16th — districts, campuses, and teachers may continue accessing the online materials to support their professional learning communities. The course will be open until October 7, 2011.

Please continue to access Region XIII’s STAAR Resources website (http://www5.esc13.net/staar/index.html) for the most current information and resources.
