Texas Math and Science Diagnostic System changes

All TMSDS users should have received an e-mail today with the following information. We are duplicating on the blog to ensure campus receipt of the information in case e-mails or staff changed over the summer.

This email is long and contains a great deal of information that is very important. Please read this carefully. We are here to support you, so please let us know if you have questions.

Your superintendent received a Letter to the Administrator in June which informed districts and charters of the new student upload process required to access two applications:

*    Math and Science Item Repository (formally TMSDS, but which will nowbe referred to as TxAIR Texas Achievement Items Repository)
*    MSTAR Universal Screener for grades 5 8

The new processes for accessing these online applications will begin with the 2012 2013 school year and will be accessed through the Project Share Gateway.

TxAIR Texas Achievement Items Repository (formerly known as TMSDS)
TMSDS (now referred to as TxAIR) will be available in October 2012.  Due to the migration of the math and science items repository to Epsilen, any teacher-created tests you want to preserve must be saved in pdf format to your personal computer by Friday, August 31.  Click here <https://esc13.adobeconnect.com/_a1002391879/p42selobrx7/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=normal> for a short presentation explaining the procedure.  If you have problems accessing CoreK12 using your old login, contact universalscreener@region10.org
<mailto:universalscreener@region10.org<universalscreener@region10.org>> for assistance.  In late September, we will send a follow-up email with additional information on dates and the processes for accessing the TxAIR Items Repository.

MSTAR Universal Screener
Because the MSTAR Universal Screener application has been migrated to Epsilen, districts and charters are able to access it in one of three ways:
•        The Project Share Gateway (www.projectsharetexas.org)

•        Individual Epsilen User My Portfolio Page

•        Direct Link (www.mstar.epsilen.com <http://www.mstar.epsilen.com> (This link became available on August 22.)

The 2012 2013 MSTAR Universal Screener Administration Windows can be found in the table below. Please note:  the first week is noted as a soft launch for selected campuses.  If your district/campus is interested in participating in the soft launch, please contact your education service
center (ESC).
*Fall Window (Soft launch) is August 27- 31, 2012 (Selected campuses)
*Fall Window (Open to everyone) is September 3-28, 2012

New MSTAR Diagnostic Pilot
The Texas Education Agency is in the process of developing the MSTAR Diagnostic for grades 5-8. After the screener is administered, and at-risk students identified, the diagnostic will be the next step for RtI
implementation for Algebra Readiness. This tool is scheduled to be available late spring, 2013. TEA has announced that the MSTAR Diagnostic will be piloted September 10-27, 2012. They are requesting volunteers to participate in this pilot. If you are interested in participating in the pilot, with the permission of your administration, please complete the Online Pilot Participation Form.
