Middle-School Students in Texas Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Universal Screener & ESTAR Pilot

The spring administration window for the Middle-School Students in Texas Algebra Ready (MSTAR) Universal Screener is now open.

Dates for the spring window are April 8 – May 10, 2013.

The MSTAR Universal Screener is a formative assessment system administered to students in grades 5-8 to support instructional decisions. The purpose of the MSTAR Universal Screener is to help teachers answer two important questions within the Response to Intervention (RTI) process:

(1) Are students on-track or at-risk for meeting expectations in algebra and algebra-readiness?

(2) What is the degree of intensity of instructional supports or supplemental interventions needed for students who are at-risk for not meeting curricular expectations in algebra?

Results can help teachers identify students who are in need of additional instructional support in their development of knowledge and skills that relate directly to algebra readiness.

Access the MSTAR Universal Screener through one of the three following ways: • Go to http://projectsharetexas.org and log in to Project Share in the upper right corner; enter MSTAR through the gadget on the My Portal page in Epsilen.

• Go to http://projectsharetexas.org, click the down arrow on the green “Where would you like to go?” bar, and log in to the MSTAR application.

• Go to http://mstar.epsilen.com and log in to the MSTAR application.

If you have questions or need assistance in this process, please contact the MSTAR Universal Screener contact at your education service center or universal screener@region10.org
