Ed Vara Announces His Retirement

Dear Region 13 Colleagues,

I want to let you know that I am retiring at the end of August after 38 years in education (of which 25 years have been at ESCs).  It is hard to leave such a great region and wonderful people at the Center and in the field.  I have truly been blest to have been associated with such wonderful professionals who are so passionate and dedicated to our core mission – the education of children and youth in our public schools. You inspire me!

This I know:  We are in good hands both at the Center and in the field.  Although challenges are ever present, so is the power of Hope and the sense of Community.  We have a packed summer ahead and I hope to visit with you when next you are at the Center.

I hope you truly enjoy this new chapter in your life! And thank YOU for having blessed us with your endless optimism. I will greatly miss your skill in helping everyone to take a deep breath in the face of complex challenges. This old saying seems perfect to share with you now:
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Congratulations! I first became acquainted with you when you worked with the alternative certification program at Region 20. You put together a great program that provided me with the educational foundation needed to be a successful educator. I am very grateful for this beginning. Thanks for your hard work in education and the many years you have devoted to helping students across the state. Enjoy your retirement!
