ESL Academy Trainer of Trainers (TOT)

The ESL Academy has been revamped! The updated ESL Academy is more conducive to studying for the TExES 154 supplemental exam, as it integrates Checks for Understanding to allow participants time to digest information, and also contains sample test questions within the content to help identify the key information critical for the test taker.  The three-day ESL Academy is not only test prep, but it also shows practical ways to apply the knowledge in a teacher’s classroom.

NEW! We are excited to offer a Trainer of Trainers for the updated ESL Academy.  Prior to attending the TOT, you will need to attend an updated version of the ESL Academy.  The ESL Academy will be offered at Region 13 on the following dates:

July 19, 20, and 21 (SU1631815) $285

October 3, 10, and 17 (FA1634592) $300

February 6, 13, and 21 (SP1734593) $300

 

Then attend the Trainer of Trainers:

Next Saturday: ESL Supplemental #154 Texes Review

Last chance to sign up! This one-day workshop will help to prepare for the TExES Supplemental Exam #154 by reviewing key concepts aligned to TExES Test Frameworks:

  • Language Concepts and Language Acquisition
  • ESL Instruction and Assessment
  • Foundations of ESL Education, Cultural Awareness and Family involvement

After a content review, participants will explore effective test taking strategies. Participants will additionally take an on-site test secure TExES practice test, score their results, and work in small groups to review content.

Registration is now open for ELL Insitite 2015 on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

Our Keynote speaker will be Marie Moreno, principal of Las Americas Newcomer School in Houston, TX. Las Americas Newcomer School is an English intensive school for recent immigrants with a framework centering on differentiating instruction, language acquisition and specialized groupings to ensure evident riggor in every classroom. Ms. Moreno will address the needs of recent arrival immigrants, including unaccompanied minors and refugees from across the globe.

Happy First Day of Fall! As your school year is off and running, take a moment to peruse the diverse offering of engaging workshops that the Region 13’s Bilingual/ESL team is offering for teachers of ELLs.

Next Monday, we kick off our PD season with “Differentiating Instruction for English Language Learners”. October will provide you with opportunities to attend sessions for those seeking ESL certification, as well as those looking to improve their instructional practices for Long Term ELLs, guided reading for bilingual classrooms, literacy strategies for content-area teachers of ELLs, and practical guides to using the ELPS and PLDS.
