“Your connection with a child is the most powerful tool you have as a teacher”- Kaiser and Rasminsky, 2012

The beginning of the year can sometimes feel very hectic but it is a good time to remember the importance of building one thing: Relationships. Forming relationships with your students and their families becomes crucial, especially these first few months.

Here are some ideas:

  • Classroom environment –
    • Ask parents to share about their family and share pictures with the classroom.
    • Add multicultural props to Dramatic Play Center – i.e. molcajete, taco shells, saris dress, chopsticks, etc.
    • Create classroom art projects
  • One-on-one time –
    • Take some time to spend individually with each student
    • Write down what their interest and likes are
    • Greet each student as they walk into your classroom
    • Notice how they are feeling and acknowledge their emotions

Did you hear the BIG news?

Conscious Discipline is coming to Austin, TX on November 2,2015 !

The Region 13 School Ready team is proud to present

Conscious Discipline in the Pre-Kinder Classroom

Ready to promote social and emotional learning skills for children while increasing their academic engagement all at the same time?

We have the training you have been waiting for!

Learn the Conscious Discipline® brain model that will help you not only maintain self-control, but teach it to all children, even those with special needs. In this workshop you will not only learn how to positively discipline children but literally change their brain chemistry in the process. This yields lasting changes in behavior, not temporary fixes.

What is Conscious Discipline?

Conscious Discipline integrates social-emotional learning, discipline and self-regulation so you spend less time policing behaviors and more time teaching vital life skills.

Conscious Discipline is a longtime leader in integrating classroom management and social-emotional learning. It utilizes everyday events rather than an external curriculum, and addresses the adult’s emotional intelligence as well as the child’s. Learn to respond to daily conflict in a way that transforms it into an opportunity to teach critical life skills, and watch every aspect of your classroom life improve!

Conscious Discipline is evidence-based, and was named as a national model for character education by the Florida State Legislature.
