- Do you have parents of students with visual impairments who feel isolated?
- Do they have questions about their child that they want to ask other parents?
- Would they be interested in sharing their experiences with parents of children with similar visual impairments?
The Guild’s National Tele-Support Network hosts weekly telephone support groups for parents of children with similar visual impairments. There is no charge to join or participate.
They offer support groups for parents of children with Retinitis Pigmentosa, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Cortical Visual Impairment, Leber Congenital Amaurosis, Autism Spectrum Disorders with Visual Impairment and a Spanish-language group for parents of children with Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome. There is also a support group designed for blind teenagers planning to attend college within a year.
All groups are facilitated by a psychologist or social worker with frequent live input from ophthalmologists and optometrists.
